THE WHITE SUPREMACIST HATERS ARE STILL A THREAT AND SO ARE THEIR SILENT SUPPORTERS

Let's speak plainly about race in the United States. There are still millions of white supremacist haters out there and perhaps most Whites are silent supporters of those more obvious bigots.

The series of assassination plots against Obama and the violence directed against Jews and people of color across the nation since Obama's Presidency is a real trend and one that reflects the danger of a white supremacist mob running or at least ruining America more than they already have.

It seems that the government is intensifying its law enforcement efforts in this area and several white supremacists have been investigated or arrested. Those who openly advocate gun battles with the authorities, for example, seem to be getting in trouble for the first time. That is the first time for a long time as far as I know.

White supremacy as a cultural norm has weakened over the last thirty years or so. It is quite weak compared to what it was. I like to think that a lynching is impossible now! On the other hand the trend is that some people of color are being targeted by violent racists and this is completely unacceptable and cannot be tolerated by any community of just and caring individuals.

So the average level of racism in the nation is way down but there remain racist enclaves where individuals live in a white supremacist past that is dead in the larger cities. Walking the streets of Manhatten one has the sense that the matter of race has been settled. People of various races and groups are going to live together in peace.

Yet in other parts of the nation the verdict is not yet in. Sundown towns and hundreds of racist organizations suggest that the matter of race in the United States remains an issue where the threat is from extremists on the far right, militant, armed and violent racists and perhaps anti-abortionists.

We see references to so-called "lone-wolf" attacks and a document has been circulating trying to promote that idea. I have also heard that small group attacks have been encouraged but no one wants to take any responsiblity for leadership either.

There is an overlap in tactics with the anti-abortion killers who all were alone or with small groups as far as I have heard. Of course Dr. Tiller's death is the latest in the murder of eight or more people involved in providing abortions. There is a huge silent support for these killings and their killers.

The lone-wolf diatribe I read is sort of loony and such isolated acts seem almost as pointless as the really pointless and far more common public massacre of people for no particular reason, but for some sort of personal satisfaction. Just one bright note in an otherwise dismal hymn. I believe the far-right terrorists are still way behind the personal satisfaction terrorists in terms of numbers of victims in the United States.

It seems that exposing the silent or hidden support for these killers, particularly challenging the thinking of these silent supporters, is crucial to making progress in this area. A lot of unity in other areas is being blocked by the anti-abortion movement's exploitation of the idealism of so many who have clearly progressive positions elsewhere. We also have to appeal to those who oppose abortion to try and think of the essential unity we have with them, as progressives, on other matters and to not let the abortion issue divide us in promoting peace and justice otherwise.

Those who oppose abortion sometimes are for the death penalty and so they can be challenged to be more consistent and to oppose war and the death penalty, to be progressively pro-life in these areas.

We need to send people to the most hateful and militant congregations and groups and offer them a loving truce, a loving collection of projects we can all work on to diminish the number of late term abortions without banning or criminalizing them any more than they already are.

The promotion of birth control techniques and technology should be embraced by all parties because the use of these devices helps people manage their lives and families in a more rational and loving manner.
Young people are smart enough to embrace this sexual knowledge even if their parents are skeptical and prohibit it. So we need to go to the young and old to pitch the condom and other effective forms of birth control.

Of course anyone who is born should find love and comfort in this world and a couple of other things too. I think we can all agree on that, no infanticide and that infanticide is a crime. So it seems that por and anti abortion folks can agree on minimizing late term abortions by whatever means except prohibiting or criminalizing a woman's right to choose as the Supreme Court now characterizes it.

Of course, in the background I am thinking that the white supremacist and anti-abortion haters seem to be playing the same game, a game of murdering political targets. Individually they seem to be paying a price but the hateful movement rejoices and is sucessful in winning by the gun! It is quite an alarming and reprehensible situation.

I was looking at a list of Hate Organizations in the United States the other day and it was a big list, nauseatingly long. Only Hawaii seems free of truly dangerous haters. How do they do it?

The class issues underly a lot of the misunderstandings about race. Who is on the stage for the racist? Only the races and those loyal to their race or not. Can they be led to see the class character of oppression, war, injustice and even racism? Some will and some will not see these things once they hear about it or perhaps later on as they think about it. So its
time to minister to the heathen so to speak.
